ISSUE 142 ISSN 1712-468

It is the inspiration of the Olympic Games that drives people not only to compete but to improve, and to bring lasting spiritual and moral benefits to the athlete and inspiration to those lucky enough to witness the athletic dedication.

This Week's Inspiration

The Powerful Spirit of the Olympics

Spirit: Temper or disposition of mind or outlook, especially when vigorous or animated; the immaterial intelligent or sentient part of a person; the activating or essential principle influencing a person; an inclination, impulse, or tendency of a specified kind; a special attitude or frame of mind; the feeling, quality, or disposition characterizing something; a lively or brisk quality in a person or a person's actions; a person having a character or disposition of a specified nature; a mental disposition characterized by firmness or assertiveness; enthusiastic loyalty

Note: This article is not concerned with the many debates surrounding the costs, commercialism, or any other controversial topic. It is focused on the pure and unadulterated spirit of the Olympic Games themselves.

Living in Vancouver, the host city for the Winter 2010
Olympics, brings a different perspective to the amazing
spirit of the Games.

Having a chance to tour the Olympic Athletes Village, engage in the many events surrounding the venues, and feel the positive energy—spirit—of the Games is electrifying. People are smiling, friendly, and clearly enjoying themselves.

What causes so much positive emotion?

Here are a few of the many contributing factors.

How might we link that spirit into our lives?

People really do want to live inspired lives that are positive and supportive. When the Olympics are over and gone, what can we do to build on some of that great spirit?

  1. CRG's calling is to assist others to live, lead, and work on purpose—including helping people discover their passion and learn how to live it, intentionally, every day. An On-Purpose Person has a vibrant mind, body, and soul. Consider the following processes and assessments.

  2. To enhance your results, follow these ACTION STEPS .

This Week's Action Steps

Taking the Powerful Spirit of the Olympics into Your Life!

  1. On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 is highest), what would you and others say about your level of engagement—spirit—in your life?

  2. If the average response is less than 8, what can you do to increase your spirit?

  3. Before anything can be implemented with confidence and the power of an Olympian, you must be living, leading, and working on purpose. You cannot inspire others if you are not passionate about your own calling, roles, and responsibilities. Use the following CRG resources to stimulate your mind, confirm your passions, and connect with your purpose.

  4. Get a support group or team! Excellence is almost always a team effort. Athletes have coaches, family, and other supports. If you are attempting to do it on your own, start forming your own winning team!

  5. Be fully committed and dedicated to achieving mastery and start acting like a winner. Greatness is not for the half-hearted. Would a world-class athlete mope around after a failed attempt or would he or she get back up and start again? Quitters never stand on the podium!

  6. If your goal is ethical and has integrity, others will want you to succeed.

  7. Play with sportsmanship values. Be competitive, yet show your skills and ambition without trampling on others.

  8. Embrace the diversity in which you find yourself and see the positive side of events. There is too much negativity around us already.

  9. Just do it! Energy begets energy. Before you know it, you will be inspiring yourself and others!
