This Week's Inspiration
The Powerful Spirit of the Olympics

Note: This article is not concerned with the many debates surrounding the costs, commercialism, or any other controversial topic. It is focused on the pure and unadulterated spirit of the Olympic Games themselves.
Living in Vancouver, the host city for the Winter 2010
Olympics, brings a different perspective to the amazing
spirit of the Games.
Having a chance to tour the Olympic Athletes Village, engage in the many events surrounding the venues, and feel the positive energy—spirit—of the Games is electrifying. People are smiling, friendly, and clearly enjoying themselves.
What causes so much positive emotion?
Here are a few of the many contributing factors.
- Sport is a great equalizer. Where you were born, your race, your economic background, level of education, or culture does not matter. If you have the skills to compete at this level, you are engaged as peers. Barriers are removed and you move to an environment of inclusion.
- We identify with the dedication and commitment it takes to become a world-class athlete. Mastery of anything in life does not happen by accident. To give 4 years of your life for a performance of a few minutes reveals the purity of purpose and passion these individuals live each day.
- We want to support others. The Olympic Games provide a channel for that desire, even if it is simply cheering into a television screen.
- We share in the excitement of others' victories.
- A high level of sportsmanship reflects the values of respect and honor between and among competitors.
- There is great appreciation and acknowledgement of the world's diversity, as hundreds of cultures are present in one event and location.
- People want to focus on something positive, rather than all the negative material that fills our daily news and drains our energy.
How might we link that spirit into our lives?
People really do want to live inspired lives that are positive and supportive. When the Olympics are over and gone, what can we do to build on some of that great spirit?
- CRG's calling is to assist others to live, lead, and work on purpose—including helping people discover their passion and learn how to live it, intentionally, every day. An On-Purpose Person has a vibrant mind, body, and soul. Consider the following processes and assessments.

This Week's Action Steps
Taking the Powerful Spirit of the Olympics into Your Life!
- On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 is highest), what would you and others say about your level of engagement—spirit—in your life?
- If the average response is less than 8, what can you do to increase your spirit?
- Before anything can be implemented with confidence and the power of an Olympian, you must be living, leading, and working on purpose. You cannot inspire others if you are not passionate about your own calling, roles, and responsibilities. Use the following CRG resources to stimulate your mind, confirm your passions, and connect with your purpose.
- Work with CRG's 88-page My Source EXPERIENCE Journal™–A Personal Discovery Process for Those Who Want to Lead a Passionate and Fulfilling Life.
- Benchmark your gifts, talents, and passions by using CRG assessments. Your results will assist you to establish your values with confidence in all areas of your life. As part of the clarification process, we recommend four specific assessments.
- Personal Style Indicator (PSI), to identify your natural preferences and strengths
- Values Preference Indicator (VPI), to clarify your core values.
- Self-Worth Inventory (SWI), to understand how your level of self-worth is affecting your success.
- Get a support group or team! Excellence is almost always a team effort. Athletes have coaches, family, and other supports. If you are attempting to do it on your own, start forming your own winning team!
- Be fully committed and dedicated to achieving mastery and start acting like a winner. Greatness is not for the half-hearted. Would a world-class athlete mope around after a failed attempt or would he or she get back up and start again? Quitters never stand on the podium!
- If your goal is ethical and has integrity, others will want you to succeed.
- Play with sportsmanship values. Be competitive, yet show your skills and ambition without trampling on others.
- Embrace the diversity in which you find yourself and see the positive side of events. There is too much negativity around us already.
- Just do it! Energy begets energy. Before you know it, you will be inspiring yourself and others!
