Are you the plaything of circumstances or are you Living your life to its fullest?

This week, I attended a friend’s funeral. Most of us have experienced this pain. A funeral reveals the inevitable mortality of our lives. No matter who you are, you will face this reality.
As hundreds came to show their respect to my friend, it was evident his life had made a positive difference. Everybody talked about what he had achieved. In his short 38 years, he had lived more than most 70-year-olds.
What would others say about you and how you live your life?
Nobody loves the excitement of running a busy business more than I do, but I still need to ask myself – am I putting off or simply omitting some important things from my life? I know I could be doing more, and I don’t mean just being busier.
What about you? How are you really doing with your life? What do you need to do differently to increase your impact – and create your legacy?
Here are some questions to ponder.
- If you’ve always wanted to invest in real estate or other opportunities, have you done it?
- What about your plans to go into business for yourself? What’s holding you back?
- Are you connecting with good friends often enough?
- Do you have a set “date night” with your significant other or friends?
- Whom have you wanted to call for months – just because – but have not?
- Have you turned down activities, commitments, or new opportunities because of fear?
- If you suddenly had at your disposal, all the resources you need or want, what would you change in your life today?
Here is my suggestion. Instead of working harder or exerting superhuman efforts, commit to making decisions with more focus, purpose, risk, passion, and congruency than ever before!
Unfortunately, for many of us, urgency addiction runs our lives. After the tragedy of 9/11, some of us stopped to reflect and tried to learn to enjoy each precious moment of daily life... yet only a short time later, those rat race activities again overtook us.
Being clear about what is important to you is the first step to personal freedom and Living on Purpose.
Take some time (as long as you need) to respond to the eight questions above. Add additional questions that are relevant to your situation. Don’t prejudge your situation or discount your worth or value.
- Write out your thoughts, findings, and discoveries.
- Ponder them and confirm them over time.
Life is a process. And it’s your life! You have the right to update all the elements you feel need addressing.
