Leadership Always Reflects in an Organization's Results

Are You a Transforming Leader?

In today's global meltdown, it's clear there's a significant lack of leadership at all levels and in all types of organizations.

Although leadership skills are critical to success, even more important are what we call Transforming Leadership Principles—foundational belief positions. Without them, you can not create a sustainable culture of leadership or a successful organization.

The impact of leadership is felt in every walk of life, from family dynamics and nonprofit organizations to governments, education, and small and large businesses.

Note: The following information is from the first section of CRG's Leadership Skills Inventory – Self, written by Terry Anderson, PhD, and Ken Keis, MBA, and based on Terry's book Transforming Leadership.

  • Review the following 12 Transforming Leadership Principles©.
  • Rank your responses, using the scale below.
  • Total your results to the 12 questions.

12 Transforming Leadership Principles

1

Every person in every situation is having an impact, for better or for worse, on the people and in the current situations.

2

Learning to observe this impact alerts us to the reality
of positive or negative leadership opportunities and events.

3

Everyone can choose to work toward making a positive difference, at each moment, with each person.

4

The use of positive and respectful power and influence
is necessary for leadership to have enough impact
to be effective.

5

Individuals determine within themselves what to do,
how to act, and how to treat people.

6

Leadership is the understanding and meeting
of deeper needs of the people being led and served.

7

Leadership has a moral responsibility that is of central importance to all other aspects of successful leadership.

8

Transforming Leadership understands and involves others, so they can gain a critical sense of belonging and also experience a mutual sense of respect and trust.

9

There is opportunity for leadership in every environment, interaction, situation, and moment.

10

Long-term impact and long-term development are as important as immediate results.

11

Leadership begins deep within a person's belief and values.

12

There always can be a deeper understanding of reality
beyond what is currently understood.

Your Total

Leadership skills are irrelevant in the absence of a supportive mindset and belief system. Imagine having great communication skills but your response to principle 4 suggests respectful influence is Strongly Disagree!

In our experience, unless you have a score of 72 or higher, you will likely find Transforming Leadership either new or contrary to your preferred way of leading. If your score is around 96 or higher, you likely will endorse and embrace the direction of Transforming Leadership. Of course, anyone can misrepresent his or her responses and achieve a higher score—but for what purpose?

So how did you do?

  • Do you see responses where you scored yourself less than 6?
  • Do you need to reconsider your attitude in those areas?
  • What mind set adjustment, if any, do you need to make?

Principle 7 is about the importance of moral responsibility, especially in business today. The lack of moral responsibility and integrity of some Wall Street leaders produced our current economic climate.

Principle 10 references government leaders who were more interested in short-term fixes, and denied the long-term impacts of their lack of oversight.

After the 12 Principles, Leadership Skills Inventory – Self outlines 60 critical leadership skills segmented into 5 sections. Each section adds another level of sophistication and requirements.

  • Self-Management
  • Interpersonal Communications
  • Coaching
  • Consulting
  • Organizational Development

We will cover those skills in future articles.

If you want to rate your leaderships skills or those of others—compared to successful transforming leaders—please click the link and immediately access the Online Leadership Skills Inventory – Self.

Note: For a full debrief for each Principle and the 60 leadership skills, consider investing in our 300-page hard-cover book, Transforming Leadership.

Learn Why Professionals Prefer the Flexibility
of CRG's New Corporate Learning Center

The Corporate Learning Center is designed specifically for

  • CRG's corporate and institutional clients;
  • people responsible for larger groups; and
  • individuals who wish to engage CRG's Online assessments to manage their employees, clients, and participants easily.

All corporate users are stored under the umbrella of your own Corporate Learning Center. This private center setup does not show any CRG site navigation.

Each Corporate Learning Center can support a hierarchy and permissions of up to 10 levels—enough for a big international company to set up offices in locations around the globe.

  • In CLC's Management Console, you can create organizational units (groups), you can add users, and you can distribute assessments.
  • As an administrator or an individual with permission, you can view the results of others and be notified that the assessments have been completed.
  • Manager's JSI—more than one person can complete a JSI on a single job or position. Through this process, the hiring and/or succession team can determine the best style characteristics needed to fulfill a specific position. This assessment is accessible only via the CLC.
  • Job Style Indicator Compatibility Reports—you can have several applicants' PSI results compared to a completed JSI. This option of comparing multiple applicants to one position is possible only through the CLC interface and digital dashboard.

Coming Soon: More Options for the CLC

  • Style 360° assessments—someone can complete the PSI, SSI, or ISI on you. Watch for upcoming announcements.

The intuitive style built into the CLC makes the administration of CRG Online assessments and reports easy!
