From the Desk of Neal Diamond,
Vice President Business Development and Associate Relations

As 2003 comes to a close, I am taking this opportunity to thank each of you for allowing CRG to be part of your lives. It is easy at times to take those closest to us for granted and just expect them to be there - and that includes our Associates. That is why I extend the warmest wishes for a wonderful holiday season to you and your family.

We are truly thankful to call you not only Associates, but friends. We wish you a Happy Chanukah, Merry Christmas, and a Joyous Kwanzaa season.

In this issue, we are focusing on our Self-Worth Inventory (SWI) assessment. As you read about this tool and see how one company is using it, you will appreciate the value this helpful communication and learning tool can be to your clients.

New Face at CRG:

We are saddened that Diane Hildebrand is leaving our CRG family. Diane has chosen to spend more time with her family, which we all applaud.

We welcome Lois Brhelle to the CRG family. She will be responsible for order fulfillment and any billing questions you may have.

New Online Community Coming:

CRG is working, in conjunction with a Canadian University, to develop its VIP Lounge and online community. This new approach to developing relationships online will add a genuine and caring aspect to the online experience. Watch for the launch of our new VIP Lounge in February 2004.

New Video:

Due to the cost of travel, some individuals have been unable to attend our Train-the-Trainer events. We know too, that a number of our attendees were overwhelmed by the amount of information they received at our 3-day Training.

This past September, we professionally taped the full 3 days. The video is now in post-production; we expect to have a finished copy in the next few weeks. If you are interested in learning more about this fabulous video, please email me at neal@crgleader.com. Simply type “video” into the subject line; I will forward information to you.

To receive a special discount, order the video by December 31.

2. Gate Entrance (A tool to take on your journey)

Whether at Christmas or throughout the year, people struggle with self-worth issues. With healthy self-worth, people can take the risks that accompany opportunities for success and fulfillment. Those with low self-worth settle for security rather than risk failure.

CRG’s Self Worth Inventory is your bridge to enhanced self-worth and, ultimately, to a more personally meaningful life.

This tool is designed to assist you in several ways.

  1. It will help you identify your present level of self-worth.
  2. It will help you understand what self-worth is and how it is developed.
  3. Most important, it will provide you with guidelines on how to increase your level of self-worth.

The assessment looks at five distinct areas.

  1. Self - seeing your relationship with yourself and what you think and feel about you.
  2. Family - knowing your thoughts and feelings about the way your family of origin treated you.
  3. Peers - understanding how you think and feel about yourself when interacting with others.
  4. Work - determining what you think and how you feel about yourself as a worker
  5. Projected Self - capturing how you think others tend to perceive you.

Once your assessment is scored, you will have information to help you gain insight into your Self-Concept (what you think about you) and your Self-Esteem (all the emotions you feel toward yourself). Both those scores lead to your Self-Worth score.

Our Self Worth Inventory is available both online and in a print-based version:

3. On the Path (Someone out there who is doing it)

“Personal Effectiveness” is something each of us wants to achieve. The question is how. The people at Federated Co-Op believe they have found an answer.

Approximately 300 retail co-operatives - from Thunder Bay in northwest Ontario, to the Queen Charlotte Islands off British Columbia on the West Coast, to the Arctic Circle - are united as the Co-Operative Retail System through their central wholesale organization, Federated Co-Operatives Limited.

Marcia Richardson, one of their trainers, explains how the Self Worth Inventory has been helping make a difference in the lives of their employees.

“We are using the Self Worth Inventory in our ‘Increasing Personal Effectiveness’ seminar; we cover the Inventory in our ‘self-appreciation’ unit. We have individual participants look at their strengths, assets, talents, skills, and also at areas where they would like to excel.”

Marcia continues, “Most people have a difficult time coming up with a good, long list of strengths. This leads us into discussions concerning self-image, how we downplay our contributions, focus on the negative, or even how we are conditioned in our lives to be modest and not to brag. This assessment has been most useful to people in the seminar to be able to overcome these negative conditionings.”

Marcia notes that because this communication tool has the ability to accurately uncover a person’s self-worth, those who score low can be impacted by the results for the balance of the seminar. Therefore, the placement of the tool within the seminar timeframe is important.

Federated Co-Operatives Limited allows its employees to complete the self-worth assessment at home, then return it to the HR or training department. Because this is a private issue, they don’t share the results with the group. It is, however, critical for the group to discuss the alternatives for increasing self-worth, which are documented in the last part the assessment.

Self-worth is critical to an employee’s effectiveness at work. Through the use of CRG’s Self Worth Inventory, Federated Co-Op is ensuring their employees are well equipped to be as effective as possible in their job responsibilities.

For more information about using the Self Worth Inventory in your business, please contact Eleanor at eleanor@crgleader.com.
