TESTIMONIALS

We hired CRG consultants because they helped us solve a problem. We needed to begin to shift the culture and behaviors of our senior medical directors. We needed them to embrace and implement a new method of providing leadership at the two hospitals. The models, inventories, and teaching methods brought to the workshop were well received and have made a lasting impression on the physicians and other managers.

Suzanne Guest, Director
BC Children’s Hospital

I want to thank you, Ken, for the recent session held with my management team. The session accomplished my primary objectives in a very professional and non-threatening fashion. I highly recommend your process for all organizations—particularly ones that are trying to move to a more effective team approach.

Fred Townley-McKay, CEO
Southwest Credit Union Ltd.

Your ability to maximize the participation in a group with varied interests and to bring them to a focus in terms of the future was indeed inspiring and appreciated. Our participants have made many comments about the ability of you, as a leader, to maintain a focus so that timetables and the deliverables could be met. You certainly made our sessions go forward with energy and vision.

How Coaching Can Improve Your Executive Performance

Tiger Woods has a coach. So do many successful executives.

Should you?

Today’s busy executives and managers rarely schedule time for themselves, yet focused private time can provide the perspective needed to increase corporate effectiveness and personal performance.

For some time, we have been suggesting that leaders—especially senior executives—can benefit significantly from executive coaching to save time and improve overall performance. A recent study supports our claim.

The study included 100 executives, many from Fortune 1000 companies. Some of the executives were making over $1 million a year. All these professionals were receiving—or had received—formal and professional executive coaching. The highest-paid and most successful executives in the world are not above asking for professional assistance.

All coaches (involved in this study) graduated from internal-coaching education focused on principles of assessment and intervention in executive coaching practice; they had undergone an extensive certification process.

Just what does executive coaching do?

“Coaching makes theory come alive through action,” says professional coach Joan C. King, Ph.D. of Beyond Success. “A person can read all the books they want and think they have it, but coaching is what makes them accountable for their actions.”

The companies and organizations that provided coaching to their executives and senior managers saw improvements in these areas.

  • Productivity
  • Quality
  • Organizational strength
  • Customer service
  • Shareholder value

The companies also received fewer customer complaints and were more likely to retain executives and managers who had been coached. In addition, the company’s investment of 5.7 x the initial investment in a typical executive coaching assignment—or a return of more than $100,000.

    Benefits to Companies
(% shown below indicates response of all executives in the study)

  • Productivity (53%)
  • Quality (48%)
  • Organizational strength (48%)
  • Customer service (39%)
  • Fewer customer complaints (34%)
  • Job retention of executives who received coaching (32%)
  • Cost reductions (23%)
  • Bottom-line productivity (22%)

    Benefits to Executives

  • Working relationships with “direct reports” (77%)
  • Working relationships with immediate supervisors (71%)
  • Teamwork (67%)
  • Working relationships with peers (63%)
  • Job satisfaction (61%)
  • Conflict reduction (52%)
  • Organizational commitment (44%)
  • Working relationships with clients (37%)

Executive coaching programs should focus on helping executives adjust to new realities—to not simply survive, but to thrive!

Do you aspire to accelerate your success and develop winning leadership strategies? If so, consider executive coaching. It’s a proven way to prosper.

September's Focus on Training

Discover Your ESP!

A Profile of CRG Associate Dr. Joan King

Joan C. King, Ph.D. has put a new spin on the old ESP cliché with her company mantra, Discover Your ESP. No, she’s not talking about your potential psychic ability; Dr. King is referring to discovering your Entrepreneurial Success Potential. The creator of Beyond Success, Dr. King uses a number of CRG’s assessments as collateral for her personal and professional coaching business.

She has the majority of her clients take the Entrepreneurial Style and Success Indicator to discover the aspects that most reflect who they are and assess their areas of potential difficulty.

“Instead of finding out all this [information] piece by piece after many meetings, I am able to get all this information up front using tools like the ESSI,” says Dr. King. “It’s a fabulous framework to see the problems ahead of time.” After the client does the assessment, Dr. King and her client discuss potential problem areas that are indicative of that particular style and come up with preemptive action plans.

One of the things she has discovered is that every time her clients hit a wall, it’s usually because they are not shifting their communications style to suit the styles of the people around them.

“They may think they’re shifting, but usually they aren’t,” states Dr. King. “So what I do is role play with them.” She asks her clients to present in their habitual manner so she can determine whether they are effectively style-shifting.

“For example, an Affective person may be trying over and over again to have a personal connection with a Behavioral person and may be wondering why that connection isn’t happening. So we will review the Behavioral person’s style needs and concentrate on style-shifting to suit that person’s language. The Affective person needs to understand the Behavioral person’s needs to build rapport.”

What shows up through coaching always determines which assessment she gives her clients next. “If, for example, I discover that my client’s self-worth is not at its highest, I will have the person take the Self Worth Inventory so we can get to the root of the problem and determine specific action steps to improve the individual’s self-esteem.”

According to King, each client who has taken a CRG assessment is amazed by how accurate it is. “It’s a fast way to extract the important information,” she adds.

Dr. King notes she will be taking copies of the Secrets of Success Journal to the upcoming BixPo event (www.bixpo.com) as support material for her trade booth, Discover Your ESP. BixPo is expected to attract 20,000 to 30,000 attendees, including Keynote speakers Donald Trump and former NYC mayor Rudi Giuliani.
