It was early afternoon on Christmas Eve. I was pulling into Starbuck’s to enjoy a nice grande extra-hot-skinny-peppermint-mocha coffee when I heard the distinct “pop” of a cap being pried off a beverage. It was a text from one of my best friends.
I expected to see a Merry Christmas message but was saddened to read that his wife’s mom had passed away suddenly in Ontario an hour earlier. In future for that family, Christmas Eve might well become the day Mom died.
Go back 12 months. It’s 4 a.m. Christmas Day and our phone rings. No one calls at 4 in the morning unless the news is bad.
My wife and I have aging parents. I braced myself and picked up the receiver. My very excited daughter had gone into labour 3 weeks early and was on her way to the hospital. Ninety minutes later, we welcomed our second grandson into the world. For our family, Christmas Day blessings now include the day little Wyatt was born.
There is much wisdom in this ancient proverb.
There’s an opportune time to do things, a right time for everything on the earth.
A right time for birth and another for death,
A right time to plant and another to reap,
A right time to kill and another to heal,
A right time to destroy and another to construct,
A right time to cry and another to laugh,
A right time to lament and another to cheer,
A right time to make love and another to abstain,
A right time to embrace and another to part,
A right time to search and another to count your losses,
A right time to hold on and another to let go,
A right time to rip out and another to mend,
A right time to shut up and another to speak up,
A right time to love and another to hate,
A right time to wage war and another to make peace.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
The year 2013 is almost gone. For some, the year has seen the start-up of new businesses, new careers, new families, and new homes. For others it has meant losing a business, a home, friends, or a family member.
For many it has been a year of hard work in planting that new business and the diligent efforts are beginning to pay off.
Some lives have enjoyed much laughter and cheer throughout the year but for others, 2013 can’t end soon enough.
I can’t tell you what will happen in January 2014 and beyond but I do know this.
-
The world is changing.
-
The global economy is changing.
Change has always been with us, but today the speed of change is so much greater. Who knows what technological advances we will see in 2014 that will revolutionize the way we interact with ourselves and with one another.
Fast-paced change and uncertainty can bring great opportunity for massive achievement in your business, career, financial, and personal life. You may find new ways, over the next months, to strengthen the foundation of your future success . . . or your enlightenment may arrive overnight!
I believe uncertainty is good for us. It gives us the chance to change our plan or path for the months and years ahead—we can start to define our world in new ways.
Some of you are looking at 2014 as an uphill battle, just hoping you won’t lose more ground this coming year. If you hold on to that belief and negative attitude, I am afraid 2014 will be nothing more than a year of trying to survive.
Our focus in the year 2014 shouldn’t just be on business or personal survival. This is a time to reach for success and prosperity!
The best place to start is with a clear definition and understanding of YOU.
-
The way you prefer to interact with people, time, tasks, and situations
-
Your core values
-
The sources of stress in your life
-
The work that suits your best
-
How to best lead your team and organization
-
The value of positive self-worth and self-esteem
-
Your health practices
That knowledge will allow you to increase your credibility in all situations.
-
As you increase your credibility with yourself, you will start to see your credibility rise with others, which ultimately increases your success.
-
With that increase comes a new outlook on world around you and the role you play in it.
At CRG we exist to help you define your world in the most effective way possible. That is why we developed the CRG Assessment Systems Certification Program and our suite of 100+ assessment, learning, and development tools.
The streamlined self-administered and self-scoring CRG assessments are not tests that can be passed or failed.
-

The CRG tools will also assist you to better understand the people around you. Armed with that knowledge, you can increase the effectiveness of your communication, which will help you get the results you want and need. Our proven assessments offer amazing freedom, clarity, direction, and release to individuals and businesses—the chance to take a brand new look at an existing world.
Our friends who recently lost their mom have a choice. They can allow her passing to mark future Christmases as a time of sadness or they can choose to celebrate Mom’s life along with the holiday activities.
I know they will choose the latter. Even on that bleak Tuesday, they were going to go ahead with Christmas because they understood that’s what Mom would have wanted.
Are you going to define 2014 or will you allow events to define you?
We live in a world of new opportunity. Rewards await the men and women who take advantage of it.
Take control by clearly understanding who you are and how you can best interact with whatever the New Year delivers. Start by choosing an exciting assessment from the CRG website.
